Let me talk about the Tetra Pak ITX crisis that occurred in Europe in 2005. In September 2005, in a routine quality inspection at the Environmental Protection Institute in Marche, Italy, it was found that Nestlé infant formula milk using the UV offset printing process contains trace amounts of the photochemical isopropyl thioxanthonone (ITX). ). This chemical was originally used in the UV offset printing process for infant formula milk boxes, and there may be residue migration and penetration into the baby's milk.

In response to this incident, Tetra Pak China immediately issued a statement saying that the incident was not related to Tetra Pak China. The statement said: First of all, the problematic baby milk is not sold in the Chinese market; secondly, all factories in Tetra Pak China (including Taiwan Province) use the flexo ink process, there is no ITX pollution problem in the UV offset process, Nestlé All Tetra Pak packaging in the Chinese market comes from the Tetra Pak China factory and does not involve ITX. It can be seen that the wide-format flexographic ink technology solution has won the Chinese beverage packaging market for Tetra Pak.

The flexo-printed beverage package represented by the Leroy bag is competing with the gravure beverage package represented by the Combibloc package. It is understood that Huiyuan Juice is still used in gravure packaging. The gravure can reach 175 lines/inch, while the flexo can only reach 133 lines/inch. However, since the beverage packaging is transmitted from Europe, it uses the design style of European large color blocks and thick mesh lines, so the flexo package The print quality is not in sharp contrast to the gravure, and the user can accept the design of the flexo. However, there is a big difference in cost between the two, because flexo printing is not very demanding on paper, and it can be adapted to different quality papers because it can be matched with plates of different hardness; even if gravure is installed The electrostatic ink absorbing device still has high requirements on the smoothness of the paper, etc., otherwise it is prone to failures such as blocking, knife wire, and small mesh points falling off the net.

Here is a case where Shanghai Xinzhou used the Bobst gravure press and solvent-based ink when printing the McDonald's hamburger box, but there was a customer complaint: the child took the hamburger in his hand and inadvertently smashed it. At the moment, the hand was stained with yellow ink stains. After receiving the complaint, Shanghai Xinzhou immediately purchased a unit-type flexo press from Qingzhou Yigao, and changed the printing process of the hamburger box from gravure to flexo, which quickly reversed the market situation. Therefore, environmental protection and control of paper cost are the advantages of wide-format cardboard flexo printing, and it is also a major feature of its ability to win.

As mentioned earlier, the current market puts higher demands on the quality of flexo printing. However, the existing wide-format cardboard flexo still stagnates at a level of 120 to 133 lines/inch, and the gradient network attenuates to zero inevitably has a hard port, and the printing quality is significantly different from that of the gravure.
